THE FIRST MOVES HAVE BEEN MADE TO TURN THE FIELDS WEST OF LUMBY INTO A QUARRY.

The initial stage involves the area becoming redesignated from an "area of search" to a "preferred area" within the North Yorkshire Mineral Plan. This process has already begun.

The new Mineral Plan will come into force in 2007 and will last until 2016.

Therefore, we must act now.

If we do not act and an aggregate quarry is established, the repercussions for the hamlet of Lumby are potentially dire.

Even after quarrying was finished, the resulting chasm in the ground would lend itself to landfill.

Everyone can help to fight this.
